Egg Tart

The egg tart came from Portuguese colonists and through the influence of the British custard tart, it evolved into Hong Kong’s egg tart. The egg custard of the tart is a smooth, bright yellow poured into a buttery, flaky crust and is a favorite of the Chinese. The egg tart is available at all bakeries and dim sum restaurants, but the Tai Cheong Bakery is acclaimed for making this renowned pastry for over 50 years and is Hong Kong’s former British Governor Chris Patten’s favorite food. It is best to eat the tarts when they are hot and right out of the oven.
